A Swaffham man's 20th birthday was memorable for the wrong reasons - he was caught drug-driving.
There was a cannabis joint in David McWhinnie's BMW when he was stopped by police in North Pickenham Road, Swaffham, in late afternoon on May 19.
"He was described as very nervous but compliant, telling them that he had a joint with him," prosecutor Denise Holland told Lynn Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
She said McWhinnie, of Sandringham Way, was dealt with for the drug possession by a caution at the roadside.
He was arrested over the drug-driving matter and a test in custody showed 3.3 micrograms of cannabis per litre of blood in his system; the specified limit is two.
Insurance clerk McWhinnie, who pleaded guilty to drug-driving, was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £212 and ordered to pay £105 costs and £34 victim surcharge.
In mitigation, solicitor Jackie Upton said: "It was a tough day for Mc McWhinnie because it was his birthday. He had had some cannabis earlier in the day.
"He decided he would go out in the car and unfortunately he was stopped."
