Cops find £70k of cannabis plants after Drumoyne house blaze - Glasgow Times

COPS uncovered £70,000 worth of cannabis plants after a fire broke out at a house in the south of Glasgow.

Fire crews had raced to reports of a blaze in a property in Drumoyne on Wednesday night.

But once they reached the scene they found a cannabis cultivation inside.

Yesterday the two-storey house was still cordoned off by police.

Glasgow Times:

And officers from the STOP unit - the police's statement of opinion unit - were inside gathering evidence.

Workmen were also taking structural supports into the building while smoke and fire damaged furniture lay in the front garden.

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said a single man lives in the home but was out at the time the blaze broke out.

She said the resident of the Duthil Street property, which is guarded by at least three CCTV cameras along its front, is friendly with neighbours.

Glasgow Times:

The woman said: "We haven't seen him back here since the fire the other night.

"I've never experienced anything like that before, a fire in a neighbour's home.

"The fire engines were here very quickly and it was all dealt with quite fast.

"I had no idea the police found drugs in the house."

No arrests have been made so far but police said enquiries are ongoing.

There were reports locally that the householder's two dogs had been injured in the fire.

But Police Scotland said they were not aware of reports of injury to any pets.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Around 8.30pm on Wednesday, October 28 2020, police were made aware of a fire at a house on Duthil Street, Drumoyne.

"On attendance, officers discovered a cannabis cultivation within.

"The plants have been seized and are worth an estimated street value of nearly £70,000.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Glasgow Times:

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire service made an attendance to Duthil Street on Wednesday.

"We received calls at 7.56pm."

The spokeswoman added that three fire appliances attended the scene, all from the Govan area.

The Half-Legal Cannabis Trap - POLITICO

The Half-Legal Cannabis Trap - POLITICO LOS ANGELES — Everything about Kelvin’s job in a neighborhood southwest of downtown seemed like any other assignment, if not a little more exciting. The 40-year-old, who had previously worked as an electrician, had been employed since 2015 by a private security company that contracted him out to guard marijuana dispensaries. In 2019, he was protecting one of the thousand or so cannabis stores in California’s biggest city—part of an industry that has grown less and less underground since 1996, when the state first legalized medical marijuana. Kelvin, who asked not to be identified beyond his middle name to avoid professional retaliation, doesn’t smoke pot, but says the gig felt like the future. He grew up in a time when other Black people he knew in Los Angeles would go to jail for possessing even small amounts of the drug. Now, customers could walk into shops like the one he was guarding, many of which can be identified by green crosses on
