POLICE who raided a terraced Bolton house found rooms packed with cannabis plants.
Bolton Crown Court was told how officers used a ram to break into a terraced property on Park Road, Heaton, on July 30.
Albanian Ermil Dardha, who was inside the building, attempted to flee through a back door but was detained and arrested.
The court heard how the ground floor living room was used as a sleeping area, with mattress on the floor, a TV and wardrobe for clothes.
But a back living room was converted, using propagating equipment and lights, to produce 18 medium sized cannabis plants. Also in the room were 65 cannabis seedlings and a quantity of black bags stacked up by the back door.
Upstairs, in one of the bedrooms, 16 plants were growing and there was evidence that more plants had recently been harvested.
Further evidence of plants being cropped was found in a second bedroom and when officers climbed into the loft they found 24 more plants growing.
Altogether 58 cannabis plants were discovered plus a quantity of seedlings.
The electricity meter had be bypassed to provide the energy for the large amount of growing equipment.
Dardha, aged 22, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the production of cannabis and appeared in count via a video link from Forest Bank prison for sentencing.
However, the case was adjourned until November 13 for the case to be referred for possible investigation into whether Dardha has been a victim of modern slavery or forced labour.
Khairie Gedal, defending, said Dardha wants to establish whether it would afford him a defence.
“He is quite keen to explore his defence before the court,” said Mr Gedal.
Judge Graeme Smith told Dardha: “It is very unfortunate that matters have not been resolved but I hope that the orders I have made today will ensure everything is resolved promptly within the next two weeks.
“I am trying to ensure that you are dealt with according to the law but also that you do not spend any more time in custody than you have to and also, if you do have a good defence, that is brought out because it may affect you future prospects.”
