After decarboxylation,how soon do I have to use it?

Once I decarb my herb, is there a time frame in which I have to use it for butter or tinctures?Or can I decarb,then store it away for a while before moving on to the next step?
Sometimes I don't have time to go through the whole process of making edibles,I thought it would be nice to just get the decarbing out of the way,then finish the process at a later date.Will the herb still be active a few weeks later?
